SIMP FACTS:
- THE VERY LAST IMAGE IN “THE CLOSER” SHOWS THE COMEDIANS TOGETHER — ALONGSIDE THE TEXT “FOR NORM”.
- THE TWO FRIENDS ONCE STARRED TOGETHER IN ‘SCREWED’ (2000).
The world of stand-up comedy legends is a small one, and Dave Chappelle has used his new Netflix special to honor one who recently left too soon.

Seen above is the final image in the acclaimed comic’s new Netflix special “Dave Chappelle: The Closer” — a black and white photograph of him next to Norm Macdonald, who passed away last month after a private, long fought battle with cancer.
Besides being two of the most famous comics of all-time, and both being known for their boundary pushing humor, the pair were friends, and even starred together in the year-2000 comedy “Screwed“.
That represents a whole different time for Chappelle, who after rocketing to household fame in the early 2000s from his success with “The Chappelle Show“, opted to take what became a decade long hiatus from the public spotlight, only to recently return in the past few years with an exclusive slate of Netflix specials.
“The Closer” represents the final special off that deal, which saw five other comedy specials released on Netflix between 2017 and 2019.
Norm Macdonald passed away September 14 at the age of 61, after fighting a 9-year battle with acute leukemia.
His acting credits include Billy Madison, Mike Tyson Mysteries, and nearly a hundred episodes of Saturday Night Live.
